Natural Paving's flat surfaced, slip-resistant textured natural sandstone has the beauty and hard-wearing qualities of real stone to add timeless appeal to any landscape. The colors and textures have formed naturally since time began which give each skillfully crafted piece its own wonderfully unique qualities.
These hand-crafted sections of coping are available as:
- Chiselled edge coping - one long edge to give an irregular, natural appearance
- Bullnose edge coping - one long edge to give a smooth rounded finish
These coping sections are ideal for use in the following applications:
- Swimming pool edges
- Wall coping
- Path edging
- Step treads
Golden Fossil has shades of light buff, gray and occasional bronze. Some pieces of stone may show fossil imprints.
Color Variation
Highly Varied
This paving has a high amount of color and shading variation present within the range
Water Absorbency
Moderate Absorption
During tests, this paving absorbs less than 3.5% water when fully saturated. The lower the water absorption, the lower the risk of algae growth and staining. By comparison, concrete paving has an average water absorption of 6%
Flexural Strength
Good
During testing, this paving showed flexural strength of 20.7 Mpa. The flexural strength value shows how much bending stress a paving unit can be put under before it breaks and the higher the number, the stronger the paving. By comparison, concrete paving has an average flexural strangth of 5 Mpa
Frost Resistance
Great
During a repeated test cycle of freezing to -40 degrees Fahrenheit, followed by thawing, this paving only lost 0.8 Mpa of flexural strength. This result demonstrates excellent paving resilience
Slip Resistance
Low Risk
This paving has a slip resistance PTV rating of 57 when dry and 51 when wet. A pendulum is used to swing across the stone to determine friction. The rougher the surface, the more the pendulum slows and the higher the value
There are many types of natural stone available, so it is important to choose the right natural stone for you.
Natural Paving's stone has been tested by a lab in the US and has far surpassed all ASTM requirements for paver material.
The most recent tests completed on the Classicstone range included:
- PSI (Compressive Strength ASTM C140-15), scored an average value of 15,260. The is the amount of pressure per square inch that may be applied before the stone breaks
- Absorption Rate (ASTM C140-15), scored an average value of 1.2%. This is a very good value as a low absorption rate is crucial to prevent the stone holding onto water, especially in colder climates.
- Coefficient of Friction Rate (ASTM C140-15), scored within a range of 1.46 when dry and 0.94 when wet.
Furthermore, all products from Natural Paving are CE marked to ensure they meet with strict EU regulations that were introduced in 2013. European standards EN1341 (flagstones), EN1342 (pavers) and EN1343 (kerbs) specify the requirements and test methods for each of these. The CE testing covers areas similar to ASTM including water absorbency, flexural strength and frost resistance.
All natural stone products have been tested to show the various properties of each stone and how it is likely to react under different circumstances.
Brand Information
Established in 2004, Natural Paving Products (UK) Ltd identified a gap in the market for high quality, ethically sourced natural stone to the domestic hardscape market. Taking an early lead in this field the company quickly began supplying to builders merchants and contractors UK wide.
Natural Paving’s commitment to excellent quality and customer service has led to Natural Paving’s current ranking as the number one independent supplier of natural stone to both the UK and North America’s hardscape industry.
Entering the North American market in 2014, Natural Paving USA has found an overwhelming demand for calibrated, natural stone products for discerning architects, contractors and homeowners seeking a gorgeous, ageless product that greatly enhances their outdoor living environment.

Material Information
Natural Stone Characteristics:
All natural stone products are unique and will vary in color and texture, often showing distinctive markings, minor imperfections and may include mineral deposits such as iron and quartzite. Sizes are nominal and may vary. The pointing allowance is often included in the individual slab sizes and contribute to the overall pack coverage. The product images shown are as accurate as photographic processes allow and may appear differently in accordance with lighting conditions and screen calibration in addition to the natural variation occurring between batches. Images may not be a true representation of a particular product size or laying pattern. Descriptions provided offer a combination of the manufacturer's and our own opinion of the product's characteristics and features.
Sandstone Description:
Sandstone is a type of sedimentary rock formed of gritty sand grains and is available in a variety of colors. Sandstone paving is available in a range of different textures, often relying on secondary processing to achieve these finishes.
- Smooth, Sawn Sandstone This sandstone has a level, smooth surface and most often, machine cut edges to give an simple appearance suited to modern, contemporary styles. The surface texture can be smooth to the touch (honed) or have a slightly rough sand-blasted texture to provide non-slip qualities. It is produced in a gauged thickness where the variation in the thickness of the slab is kept to a minimum to ease laying.
Sandstone Colors:
Sandstone is available in a wide range of colors, some subtle and some vivid. The ranges comprise of a selection of core colors combined with subtle contrasting shades, and the balance of shades can vary between batches of even the same stone due to different seams in the stone quarry occurring over time. The blend of colors may include grey, pink, khaki, maroon, buff and many more shades which when combined, create the mix of colours that is so desirable with a natural stone material. Each color range has a stronger more predominant shade, however there will always be a crossover between ranges. The color intensity increases when the paving is wet and it is often possible to see dark fossil imprints within the stone from plants that lived several million years ago. If color variation is not a desirable feature, then it is recommended that alternative materials such as porcelain are considered as alternative options. The predominant shades found within each sandstone range offered includes:
Ivory, which has crisp cream tones, with warm pinks, gray and occasional brown
Platinum, which is predominantly silver grey with contrasting tones and occasional buff
Golden Fossil, with its warm cream and golden banded appearance contrasted by pink, bronze and gray
All sandstone may have bands of color or varying shades across individual pavers.
